FAME AND FORTUNE

The story behind the song

HISTORY

ame and Fortune is a ballad recorded by Elvis Presley on March 20, 1960, at RCA’s studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. It is notable for being part of his first single release after completing his two-year service in the U.S. Army. Written by Fred Wise and Ben Weisman, the song explores the theme that material success and notoriety are completely empty compared to the treasure of true love.

Even though it was just the B-side, Fame and Fortune turned out to be really successful on its own. It climbed all the way up to number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 1960. Together, both songs on the single were certified Gold because they sold more than 1 million copies.
