The story behind the song
Released by Bill Black’s Combo in late 1959, the instrumental track originally served as the B-side to Smokie, Part 1. However, radio disc jockeys preferred the flip side and began playing Part 2 instead. The track spent four weeks at the #1 spot on Billboard’s R&B chart in early 1960.
